  • In the big world of bedding, the fabrics of bedding are varied and changing. However, in general, high-quality, high-grade fabrics are mostly characterized by comfort, sweat absorption, draping, high vision, and soft touch. When buying bedding, we always see a column on the label called “Fabric Count”. What does this fabric count mean? How do we identify bedding fabrics when buying bedding? One by one for everyone.
What is the meaning of fabric count?
The fabric count is a way of expressing the yarn. It is usually expressed as the English count (S) in the “fixed weight system” (this calculation method is divided into two types: the metric count and the inch count), ie: Under the condition of moisture regain (8.5%), how many counts are skein of 840 yards per twist of the one-pound spun yarn.
The count is related to the length and weight of the yarn. For example, one or two cottons are made into 30 yarns of 1 meter in length, that is 30; one or two cottons are made into 40 yarns of 1 meter in length, that is 40; 1 two cottons are made into 60 lengths. For 1 meter of yarn, that is 60. Therefore, the higher the yarn count, the finer the yarn, the thinner the woven fabric, and the softer and more comfortable the fabric. Obviously, the higher the count, the higher the quality of the raw material (cotton), and the higher the requirements for the mill and the weaving mill, so the cost of the cloth is higher.
    40 and 40S are a meaning. 30S-60S for bedding, 60-80S for clothing.
    How to distinguish bedding fabrics
The yarn count is the most basic unit of the finished fabric. The number of the yarn count is inversely proportional to its thickness. The larger the number, the finer the grain, and the corresponding quality requirements for the raw material (cotton) are higher. According to reports, the yarn count of bedding fabrics is generally divided into 21, 30, 40, 60 according to its thickness, and there are 80 rare ones.
The common bedding products in the market are 40. Some consumers always think that 80 is the best. In fact, this is a misunderstanding. The most suitable yarn for bedding should be 40 twill in summer and 21 in thick winter. In addition, there is a special cloth, which is mixed with different yarns, such as some satin, its warp is 60, and the weft is 40. For this kind of cloth, it can be said that 60 is 40. If a piece of fabric is woven with the same thickness of cotton yarn, it can directly describe 30 yarns and 40 yarns.
The warp and weft density refers to the number of warp and weft yarns arranged per square inch. As commonly seen, “40×40/128×68” means 40 warp yarns and weft yarns respectively, and the warp and weft density is 128×68, which is also the bed. An important technical indicator for the purchase of supplies, the higher the bed density of the same count, the higher the density. Why is the sweater warm? Because it has 250 yarns per square inch, the fine density is of course very warm.
The shrinkage of the fabric refers to the percentage of fabric shrinkage after the fabric is washed or soaked. In general, the fabrics with the highest shrinkage rate are synthetic fibers and their blended fabrics, followed by wool, hemp, and cotton. Objectively speaking, there are some problems in shrinking and fading of cotton fabrics. The key is to organize the back. Therefore, the fabrics of general home textiles have been pre-shrinked. After pre-shrinking treatment does not mean not shrinking, but means that the shrinkage rate is controlled within 3%-4% of the national standard, such products can be purchased with confidence.
The bedding is generally made of pure cotton, polyester cotton, yarn-dyed cotton, etc. Now, there are also high-grade fabrics such as silk, silk cotton blend, cotton and linen. A single polyester cotton has been eliminated, silk cotton blending, cotton and linen are gradually occupying the market, becoming the first choice for young people and white-collar workers.
Pure cotton feels good, comfortable to use, easy to dye, hygroscopic, washable, is a widely used material for bedding, but easy to wrinkle, easy to shrink; yarn-dyed cotton is a kind of cotton fabric, is used in different colors The warp and weft yarns are woven, the dye is highly permeable, the dyeing fastness is good, and the three-dimensional feeling is strong; the silk looks gorgeous, rich, has natural soft light and glittering effect, feels comfortable, elastic and hygroscopic Better than cotton, but easy to hook, the heat resistance to strong sunlight is worse than cotton.
